2nd Chance speeds along at a Formula One pace through many tight curves, but unlike recent entries in the Alex Cross series, it doesn't sacrifice good characters to a twisted plot. Lindsay's the star, but there's a fine esprit de corps among the four women, who are even better developed here than in the first book. What makes them both convincing and interesting as a criminal-justice juggernaut is their willingness to stick their necks out, even if they suffer for it. If you haven't picked up a James Patterson novel in a while, this is a great time to start anew. --Barrie Trinkle

Great Story
I travel a lot and so audio books are great for long drives. I won't give any of the story away but it's very good.

These Women are Strong in Their Second Outing
It appears to start with a shooting at a black church. After all the bullets fly, only one little girl is dead. But newly promoted Lieutenant Lindsay Boxer picks up on a few clues that make her think it wasn't a random killing. She is even more suspicious when she finds a connection with a suspicious suicide in Oakland. When a third killing takes place, the pressure is really on the department. What is the connection? Where will it all lead? I'll freely admit I picked this book up mainly because I had borrowed it from a friend. But I'm glad I did because it was much stronger than the first book in the series. All four of the lead characters are well developed here. All but Claire get their own sub-plot, and it really helps established who they are. And even Claire is a strong character here. But the sub-plots never detract from the main plot. And it is much better plotted than the first in the series. I will admit I can feel a bit of a formula already after two books, but each twist still caught me off guard. While I do think that Lindsay was rather stupid in the climax, I was willing to suspend belief and go with it. I was certainly on the edge of my seat the entire time. If the rest of the series is this strong, I'll enjoy spending more time reading them.
