I'll read even this … if it'll work …
This book reads like an informercial. I kept wanting to shout, »I already bought the book, please stop selling it to me.« I don't want a doctor to sound like he's selling the ShamWow. I want to feel like I'm getting solid, usable information. That said, I kept reading because I consider myself desperate for that one little thing that will eliminate public humiliation and migraine causing frustration and give us a life of mutual respect and familial bliss. This »magic« may work and in my limited beginnings, it has merit already. But it basically comes down to this: Consistency and consequences. They must know you will follow through. If you and your kids need a method for that (and, frankly, I probably do), then this could be the book for you. But, please, Dr. Phelan –- and your editor out there –- please don't make the parents who come after me feel like it's 2 a.m. and, if they dial right now, they are about to get another amazing knife that cuts through a can.
great book, easy read
his is an easy book for parents to follow. Simple techniques that really work. I'm a real estate agent and a busy mom. My doctor recommended this book. The biggest challenge is following-through, but if you stand your ground, then you will see a change. At first, I noticed behaviors getting worse, but with consistency and commitment, then I saw behaviors improve.
Satisfied Customer
This book arrived early and was in the condition stated by the seller. I am very pleased with the purchase and will buy from them in the future. This book is helpful especially in today's world with dealing discipline of our children. The times we live in are tough and we need all the help we can get to be effective parents.
Does not work for all children
This book was recommended to my husband and I by a professional we had consulted regarding our »spirited child«. The 1-2-3 technique just never worked with him and it was one more thing that made me feel bad about myself as a mother. If this does work for your child, great. But if it doesn't please know that this is one technique and that there are many others that help parents be consistent and effective with discipline.
