reviews
This book sucks …
… more than anything Ive ever read. I am only reading it as a requirement for a class. Otherwise, I would never touch it. It is disturbing on so many levels.
Approaching the discourse
This was my introduction to Sondheim's work. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer found so disturbing about the book, but I did not find it disturbing at all. It was cathartic and strange to read but I could tell that the sexuality was not just there for sexuality's sake; there is a significant amount of thought behind it.
I will admit that I didn't understand what was going on with some of the theory embodied in different ways throughout the text, but the book served as an excellent entry-point to Sondheim's work. As with entering any discourse, being open in my approach to this book allowed me to enjoy and be changed by it.
