Product Description Walk into a bar or restaurant in Barcelona and chances are that you will enounter a beautiful tile pattern on the floor. In the late 19th century, mass reproduction of intricately designed floor tiles became possible, and they became a common feature in the interiors of buildings in cities all around the Mediterranean. In Barcelona, the design of such tiles reached its peak in the age of 'Modernismo', the Spanish variety of Art Nouveau, in the early 20th century. Barcelona Tile Designs features a colorful collection of carefully restored and digitized designs. Both single tiles and whole patterns and borders are shown, and the tiles on the CD make it possible to create designs in any shape and size. A great resource for design professionals and hobbyists alike.
reviews
Useful for graphic designers
This series of books from Agile Rabbit Editions has a lot to offer to graphic designers and also to those who appreciate patterns used in different cultures all over the world. Personally, I would prefer it if the motifs were accompanied by short text explaining a few things about the cultural context.
tile girl
I'm disappointed that there weren't any actual photographs of tile and how they were used (only one photo). This book consists of only drawings in funky colors. Of course you can use your own colors if you want to reproduce the pictures, but this book is not eye candy. It comes with a CD for ease of replication.
Barcelona Tile Designs as a Designer's Tool
Designers, be they in graphics, fabrics, household products, or hobbiests can find wonderful ideas in this book. It is an excellent resource for designs with an Iberian influence from the late 1800's forward and includes a brief history of the tile making process. As a quilter who likes to deviate and/or expand upon traditional quilt blocks, I find such resources very helpful in using existing fabric prints as a jumping off point for borders, blocks, or over-all patterns. This is just one of several Agile Rabbit Editions I highly recommend. Barcelona Tile Designs
really like the CD that comes with the book and allows you to print each to in whatever size you need. I also like the way the book shows different designs you can create with the tiles.
